Twinning and partnering
The cornerstone of the AMR One Health approach is comprised of (inter)national partnerships, simply because no country can or should face the AMR threat alone. If we collectively wish to tackle the AMR threat, we need to accelerate the implementation of our National Action Plans and intensify our collaboration in this area. The 2019 AMR Conference therefore provides the opportunity for countries to share experiences in the field of AMR and work towards possible twinning partnerships.
These twinning partnerships can focus on different elements of the AMR approach: raising awareness among health professionals, farmers or consumers, setting up surveillance systems, developing a legal framework for approval and distribution of antimicrobials, sharing good practices on improving infection prevention, human and animal health and prudent use of antimicrobials etc.
We believe all countries will benefit from sharing experiences and best practices. Hence, we would like to ask you to consider participating in a twinning collaboration with other countries. We would kindly ask you to fill out the Twinning Exercise form below, to help us identify in which areas you would be interested to offer or to receive knowledge and support.
This information will be gathered and prepared for the Ministerial twinning lunch on the first day of the conference, June 19th. During this lunch, Ministers will meet with other colleagues in small groups in a roundtable setting to explore possibilities for collaboration with the aim of advancing the implementation of National Action Plans.
We kindly ask all Heads-of-Delegation to prepare answers for three main questions that will be addressed during the lunch:
- Do you see possibilities to develop the concept of twinning with another country to further the implementation of national action plans, also after the conference?
- Can you share the strengths and weaknesses of your capacities to implement the AMR National Action Plan?
- In which areas (e.g. surveillance, laboratories, stewardship, diagnostics) do you see the need or willingness to cooperate? Please consider gaps that you have identified or expertise that you have to offer to other countries.
